“The society based on production is only productive, not creative.”
- Albert Camus
Did you know that the word “hello” is a very recent addition to our general etymological reality? Hello's rise to popularity in the 1880s is traced almost exclusively to the spread of the telephone as a way to make sure someone else was on the other end of the line.
Now isn’t the story of “hello” WAY MORE engaging than just saying “hello”? That’s because the human brain is wired for stories. Storytelling has functioned as our primary mode of passing knowledge from The Epic of Gilgamesh to the recounting of your own epic game of D&D. I have a feeling that, if you’re reading these words, then you too love a good story, and understand the impact stories have on society.
So welcome gameplayer/story-lover to a new company with this core value in mind… building a community that is OBSESSED with combining the best of gameplay and storytelling.
We don’t just have goodies; we ALSO have an incredible group of individuals from a broad spectrum of industries that have come together under our core value. The beginning of our society starts now, and we are so EXCITED to have you with us.
I’m Ron Ogden. I consider myself a “Wildcard Person.” Here is a link to understand more about it, but I like this phrasing the best.
A Wildcard is a person who can take on many different roles as needed. They are fundamentally problem solvers who enjoy tackling new challenges. A Wildcard's role at any given time is dictated by the problem that needs solving.
Being a problem solver is what led to my fascination with storytelling. The Hero’s Journey describes a “hero," their every day, and then introduces problems. The best part is that it was the storyteller’s job to solve those problems. Aesop’s Fables is a book I read regularly. The stories’ simplistic structure and everlasting morals still ring true to me today, but I’m not just fascinated with problem-solving and storytelling; I also now do it for a living. My experience in storytelling spans from being a DM for my friends all the way to actor/producer of live storytelling experiences, including improvised musicals, plays, and live play D&D as Uggo Ragefist on The Dungeon Run.
Now that you know who we are, I hope this monthly newsletter will contain helpful information for your storytelling adventures wherever they may lead you, as well as updates about exciting new products and events, including an upcoming Kickstarter!!!
